There where many crimes that were occurring in kansas in the year of 1974. Police where stumped. Murder after murder, crime after crime. Anonmoyns letter sent to the police station and local news recourses, without a name address, or stamp. These letters being filled with descriptive details on each killing. The person who was responsible for this came to be known as the “BTK Killer.” This stood for “Blind, Torture, Kill.” Which was in fact what the murder did. In 2004 and 2005 the letters were still being sent.
In 2004 people had thought the BTK murder had just died out. The murders hadn't occurred in a couple years. Then an anonymous letter was sent again to police. This time saying that he the owner of this anonymous letter killed someone. One hook was that police did not suspect this murder to be the work of the BTK murder. Police analyzed the letter. They found that the DNA that was under the fingertips of the victim provided by police was with unknown evidence. They did many DNA samples of many men were taken to try to match the one that was found under the victims fingertips. In one letter to the police, Dennis anonmouysly asked if they can track information from a floppy disk, the police then responded back saying that there was absolutely no way of tracking what computer the disk was sent from, this was a lie, more like a setup. Rader then sent the police a message and a floppy, they acting quickly looking at it and fount that the man who had written it went by the name of Dennis and who had ties with a Lutheran Church. They contacted the church and got Dennis’s last name; Rader. They also knew that the BTK murder has a black jeep. They found The address of Rader and drove by and in fact found a jeep, a black one in his drive way. This left them with strong evidence to convict Rader, but wasnt enough to yet do so. So police took another stand. They got a warrent to collect the DNA of a pap Smear that raders daughter had taken while she was at the Kansas State University medical clinic. She attending school there. The DNA was a near match to the DNA sample that was taken from the victims fingernails, this indicated that the killer was closely related to Raders daughter. This was all the police needed to make an arrest.
Febuary 25, 2005 Rader was arrested near his home in Park City. He was accused of being the BTK murder. The next morning, Febuary 26, 2006, rader plied guilty to the murder on june 27, 2005. He gave graphic accounts of his crimes in court. Leaving them to have little mercy. August 18, 2005, Rader was sentenced to ten consecutive life sentences. The was one life sentence per murder he had committed. This left him not able to be released until 2108. So life in jail.
